LISA WAUP
Lisa Waup is an indigenous artist who has studied at various institutes in Melbourne and Papua New Guinea, including gaining degrees in Advanced Certificate of Art and Design and a Bachelor of Arts at Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. Both studying and applying all disciplines in the Art Industry, including printmaking, photography, painting and sculpture.
She has also lectured in photography and printmaking at the University of Papua New Guinea, in Port Moresby.
She has exhibited both nationally and internationally in solo, and group exhibitions. Her work has travelled the globe.
Spanning over the last 12 years she has lived in Papua New Guinea, in extreme remote villages to urban villages, both gathering data and being artistically and spiritually inspired by a tribal existence. Living with her family and National born husband Naup Waup, they have both been working on a Project entitled “The Pariet Project” with the remote Pariet Tribe, encompassing and compiling exhibitions to assist in an awareness of the Project.
The Project is initiated in the light of World Globalization issues and the Sustainability of its Natural Resources. Furthermore the Project is addressing countless issues relating to Traditional Land Ownership, Customary Land Boundaries and the survival of a dying Cultural Civilization.
